How can we use technology to help prepare students for a global world?

In a comparative study of Guatemala and Pakistan I found that literacy rates and school attendance for females that live in these countries are low. In both countries, women are viewed as less than men. Although there are efforts being made in both countries to increase the literacy rate and educational opportunities for women, there is still a huge need for more resources in the schools in order to provide a well-rounded or even, basic education.
This year I taught an elective called "Cinderella Around the World." Throughout this elective I noticed many of my students were intrigued and interested in studying the places the various Cinderella stories were taking place in. As a group we studied three different Cinderella stories and created a chart noting the differences we found. Then, I had each student choose a state or country they were interested in, do some research on that country, write a Cinderella story including some of their research, and publish their story using Windows Movie Maker. Below is an example of one student's project.
